4.0 MGD Biological Nutrient Removal Wastewater Treatment System Upgrade
Reid Engineering was the Prime Engineer that provided all civil and environmental engineering services for 4.0 MGD WWTP Upgrade from a one stage Oxidation Ditch activated sludge process into a two stage Modified Ludzack Ettinger (MLE) process in order to provide capability to consistently comply with the new ELG limits for Total Nitrogen, Ammonia Nitrogen, Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and BOD.
The purpose of this project is to upgrade the existing Perdue Farms wastewater treatment system in Lewiston, NC to comply with new EPA Effluent Limit Guidelines (ELG) limits specified in 40CFR-Part 432 and permit limits specified by the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDNR) discharge permit. The ELG limits include new permit limits for Total Nitrogen (TN) of 134 mg/L monthly average (MA) and 194 mg/L daily maximum (DM).
More specifically, the New 4.0 MGD WWTP Upgrade consists of the following components:
- Modification of Existing Oxidation ditch to Anoxic Reactor #1
- 2nd Stage Aerobic Nitrification Reactor
- Nitrate Recycle
- Aeration and Mixing
- Pumping System
- Chemical Feed
- WAS/RAS Pumping System(s)
- Equipment Buildings
- SCADA system
