Darling International – Wahoo, NE

New 0.175 MGD High Influent Loading MLE Wastewater Pretreatment System

Prior to the Upgrade the existing wastewater treatment system consisted of Anaerobic treatment followed by evaporation in several on-site lagoons.  Darling applied for an NPDES permit through the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) to discharge treated wastewater to Silver Creek.  To comply with the anticipated pollutant discharge permit limits, Darling was required to construct a new wastewater treatment system to meet both Effluent Limit Guidelines (ELGs) for the Meat and Poultry Industry, as set forth by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and Water Quality Management limits set forth by NDEQ.

Reid Engineering was the Prime Engineer that provided all civil and environmental engineering services for 0.175 MGD MLE Wastewater Pretreatment System Upgrade to achieve high efficiency BOD, TSS, and total Nitrogen removal.

  • More specifically, the New 0.175 MGD Pretreatment System consisted of the following components:
  • Activated Sludge Treatment System
  • Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) for Final Clarification
  • Chlorination-Dechlorination,
  • Sludge Dewatering System
  • Wastewater Equipment Building
