Dahlgren Naval Base, VA – Wastewater Treatment Phosphorus Removal Design Build Upgrade

Naval Support Facility Dahlgren (NSFDL), in order to meet new Total Phosphorous discharge limits, decided to install a new phosphorous removal system. NSFDL through an existing Job Order Contract (JOC) awarded the project to the design-build team of North Island & Centennial Contractors Joint Venture (NICC JV) and Reid Engineering Company (REC). The WWTP upgrade incorporated cloth media disk filtration system manufactured by Aqua Aerobics for phosphorous removal into the existing facility. The project consisted of the design and construction of a new filter building, influent flocculation tank, disk filters and effluent pump station. REC provided a cost effective design by incorporating the flocculation tank and effluent pump station into the design of the new filter building. The design-build team of NICC JV and REC worked together to provide a successful solution to the NSFDL stricter discharge limits.
